My Approach to Psychology

Works with: Adolescents, and Adults

I am a registered psychologist with experience working with adults, adolescents, and children.

I work hard to create a warm, safe, and non-judgemental space for clients to explore their unique challenges and struggles.

I utilise a person-centred approach to support clients’ wellbeing and facilitate growth. I draw upon a variety of approaches to assist clients in identifying and drawing on their own strengths to find meaning, develop new coping skills and strategies, and progress towards their goals.

Background & Experience

I am an ex-elite athlete and hold a PhD in the area of mental health and wellbeing of Australian elite and professional athletes. My experiences as an elite athlete means I have an intimate understanding of the unique stress and stressors experienced by athletes.

I have a keen interest in supporting athletes during and beyond their careers, from grass roots through to elite and professional levels of sport. I have a particular interest in supporting athletes’ transition out of sport, especially where their transition or retirement has not been by choice. I previously worked at the Western Australian Institute of Sport (WAIS), and held positions in Athlete Wellbeing and Engagement, Performance Psychology, and served as Mental Health Coordinator during my tenure.

Further to this, I have experience working with a wide range of presenting concerns, including mood and anxiety disorders, interpersonal difficulties, postpartum depression and/or anxiety, identity and adjustment stress, grief and loss, substance misuse, trauma and general life transitions. I also had experience working with ex-service personnel in the vocational rehabilitation space.

I am an integrative therapist and depending on a client’s needs, may draw upon Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Schema Therapy, and/other evidence based models. I offer short or longer term therapy, in person or via video call (Telehealth).

Therapist Fees

No referral is required to attend psychology sessions. Appointments are charged at $225 for 50 minutes.

The Australian Psychological Society recommended rate for psychology is presently set at $311. I aim to keep my fees below this rate.

Available Rebates

Clients with a valid Mental Health Care Plan (issued by a GP) or Better Access referral (issued by a Psychiatrist) are eligible for a Medicare rebate of $96.65 per session for up to 10 sessions per calendar year. Rebates will be processed at the time of payment. Alternatively, clients will be emailed a receipt and may be able to claim a rebate directly from their Private Health Insurance provider.

I am also able to see clients who are funded by an Employee Assistance Program with a self-chosen provider arrangement.
