How We Work With You

At JBD Psychology, we create a warm, safe, and non-judgmental space where you can explore your unique challenges and move forward with confidence.

We believe that therapy works best when it’s tailored to you. Our person-centred approach means we take the time to understand your individual needs, draw on your own strengths, and work collaboratively towards the changes that matter most to you.

Whether you’re navigating anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, life transitions, or simply feeling stuck, we’re here to help you develop new ways of coping, find clarity, and build lasting resilience.

Our approach is grounded in evidence-based therapies, and we always adapt our methods to fit your unique needs and goals.

The Story Behind JBD

JBD Psychology was founded by Dr Jemma Dessauvagie, a registered psychologist who supports individuals across a wide range of mental health and life challenges. Her work spans anxiety, depression, life transitions, postpartum challenges (for mums and dads), relationship difficulties, grief, ADHD and neurodivergence, trauma, and identity-related stress, working with adolescents and adults from all walks of life.

Jemma also brings a unique depth of experience in high-performance environments as an ex-elite athlete with a PhD in the mental health and wellbeing of Australian elite and professional athletes. Prior to founding JBD Psychology, she worked at the Western Australian Institute of Sport in Athlete Wellbeing and Engagement, Performance Psychology, and as Mental Health Coordinator. This background informs her work with athletes across all levels, particularly in navigating pressure, identity, and transition.

Our Approach

At JBD Psychology, we provide individual therapy for adolescents and adults across a range of areas, including Adult Psychology, Athletes & High-Performance, Relationship Difficulties, Depression & Anxiety, Perinatal wellbeing, Neurodiversity, Trauma, and Personality Difficulties.

Our work is collaborative and tailored to you. We focus on understanding your experiences, building on your strengths, and developing practical skills to support meaningful, lasting change, all within a space that feels safe, and respectful.

JBD Psychology x Fremantle Dockers AFLW

Jemma is currently working with the Fremantle Dockers AFLW, supporting athletes within an elite high-performance environment.

This role reflects her depth of experience in athlete mental health and performance psychology, developed through years of working within high-performance systems. Her work in professional sport centres on navigating the complex interplay between performance demands, identity, wellbeing, and transition, reinforcing a standard of care that is both psychologically rigorous and deeply attuned to the realities of elite environments.
